Sky Harper is a first-generation student, pursuing a BS in chemistry (biochemistry concentration), with a biology and interdisciplinary problem-solving minor, as well as being in the honors program and on the premed track. He is the eldest of six boys and comes from the Navajo Nation. His aim is to use research to minimize health disparities in low-resource communities and improve Indigenous public health.
He will pursue an MD/PhD to better understand the internal and external mechanisms that underlie health. After graduate school, he wants to gain experience at the National Institutes of Health for their community-based participatory research methods, to implement it in his own lab. Sky has previously worked for the USDA-ARS-BARC and USDA-ARS-ERRC, along with a few on-campus research labs ranging from polymers to liver cancer.
