The AISES Lifetime Membership program was named in memory of Sequoyah, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, who perfected the Cherokee alphabet and syllabary in 1821, resulting in the Cherokee Nation becoming literate in less than one year.  In this spirit, AISES Sequoyah Fellows are recognized for their commitment to the AISES mission and to STEM and to the Native American community. They bring honor to AISES by engaging in leadership, mentorship, and other acts of service that support the students and professionals in the AISES family.

Please note that if you purchase a Sequoyah Fellowship for yourself, it is not a tax-deductible donation, as they do provide an exchange of a benefit (i.e., lifetime membership). However, if you purchase a Sequoyah Fellowship for someone else, that does qualify as a tax-deductible donation. Sequoyah Fellows are encouraged to make annual or other donations in support of AISES mission. 

Updating your Sequoyah Fellows Information

If you are currently a Sequoyah Fellow and need to update your contact information with AISES, please click here  to connect to the AISES membership portal page. By completing a membership application form, you help us to ensure that you continue to receive the Winds of Change magazine, as well as other mailings regarding AISES activities and events. Additionally, by providing AISES with the requested demographic and educational information, we can correctly classify your membership status as either General (voting) or Associate (non-voting).

Sequoyah Benefits

The Sequoyah Fellowship offers individuals a symbolic way of embracing the spirit of Sequoyah. Individuals that make a one-time membership payment of $1,000 or more to AISES become Sequoyah Fellows. Through the thoughtful support of Sequoyah Fellows, we continue to contribute to the growth of professionals, students, teachers, and academic communities. AISES programs have reached thousands of American Indians and sparked their creativity, interest, self-awareness, and leadership in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Sequoyah Fellows are AISES lifetime members. For a one-time $1,000 membership fee, AISES' Sequoyah Fellows receive:

  • Lifetime membership in the American Indian Science and Engineering Society
  • An engraved medallion exclusive to Sequoyah Fellows
  • A lifetime subscription to AISES' award-winning quarterly magazine, "Winds of Change."
  • Recognition at the annual Sequoyah Breakfast held annually at the AISES National Conference
  • An opportunity to serve AISES as a leader, mentor, and role-model

How to Become or Enroll a Sequoyah Fellow

Whether you are interested in a Sequoyah Fellowship for yourself or to honor a friend, family member, employee, or co-worker, there are two payment options available.

Option #1: One-Time Payment in Full

One payment in the full amount of $1000.00 (USD) Pay online (using credit or debit card) or pay by mail using check, money order, or credit card, in U.S. Dollars.

Completed Membership Application and payment should be mailed to:

Individuals may choose this option and determine the amount and frequency of their payments over a maximum of twelve months. Access the Online Pledge Form or Download the Sequoyah Pledge Form.

  • Sequoyah Pledges have a maximum period of twelve (12) months to complete payment of their Sequoyah Membership.
  • Make checks payable to AISES.

Other Terms and Conditions

NOTE: Sequoyah Pledges are not considered Sequoyah Fellows until their obligation is paid in full. A yearly membership fee must be paid until pledges are paid in full. Yearly membership fees already paid to AISES may not be retroactively applied to a Sequoyah Fellowship. Sequoyah Pledges will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of the following terms:

  • The yearly membership fee must be paid until pledges are paid in full. Yearly membership fees already paid to AISES may not be applied retroactively to Sequoyah Fellowship membership.

  • Remittance paid towards a Sequoyah Fellowship pledge is non-refundable. Unfulfilled or forfeited pledges will be used to support AISES programs.
