Internships for Native Students in STEM fields

The AISES Internship Program opens doors for students eager to explore STEM careers firsthand. Tailored to aspiring STEM professionals, our program offers immersive 10-week summer internships allowing you to dive into real-world projects and build a foundation for your dream career. We go the extra mile, supporting advanced studies and helping you forge valuable professional connections.

In addition to the listed requirements, all internships require the following:

Application Process

Finalists may be interviewed by the partner with a focus on:

  • Match of student interest and qualifications with specified intern agency/corporation;
  • Student’s interest in a career within a subject area relevant to the intern agency/corporation, as evidenced by their program of study, work experience, and/or state plans;
  • Student’s academic and professional achievements and student’s level of demonstrated maturity and stated commitment to program;
  • Endorsements by faculty advisor or professor in the student’s chosen field of study;
  • Student’s demonstration of oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, and learning skills; and
  • Evidence of student community involvement.

 

For internships requiring technical skills or for other related reasons, liaisons or other officials may elect to participate in the evaluation of applications on an as-needed or required basis.

Required Documents for Application

Resume
Submit your current resume and cover letter. Emailed resumes will not be accepted. If you need help creating a resume, your school will likely have a Career Services office that can help. You can also find many good resources at https://careers.aises.org/jobseeker/resources.

Letters of Recommendation
One letter of recommendation is required from a faculty advisor or professor, endorsing your overall qualifications, educational abilities, leadership participation, and potential benefits gained through participation in the program. Please do not submit a letter of recommendation from a person related to you. The letter must be uploaded to the form along with the email of the letter’s author. AISES will be reaching out to verify its authenticity.  

Transcript
Please upload your more recent unofficial transcript with grades from the summer or spring of 2024. We will not accept screenshots of grades; the transcript MUST have your name visible.

Tribal/Native Enrollment Verification
Applicants must be an enrolled citizen, or a decedent of an enrolled citizen of a federal or state-recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native Village. Enrollment documents and/or a copy of birth certificate(s) showing descendency from an enrolled citizen are acceptable.  Applicants may also provide a copy of their Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or Certificate of Degree of Alaska Native Blood (CDIB) card.
