AISES Board of Director Nominations

 

Nominations are currently being accepted for general election to the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s (AISES) Board of Directors. In total, two Board of Directors’ positions are open. Each position will serve a three-year term. All AISES members in good standing are eligible to nominate a new board member. Any AISES member wishing to nominate or self-nominate is responsible for completing the nomination form in its entirety by the closing deadline. Nominations can be submitted during the open nomination period from May 1, 2021 to June 15, 2021.

 

Nominations Process

In accordance with the , there must be one additional nomination over the total number of current board vacancies. Therefore, AISES is currently seeking a minimum of three nominations for two Board of Director positions. Of note, AISES Bylaws allows for two Associate Members on the Board. One Associate Member position is currently open. Therefore, one 2021 Board position can be an AISES Associate Member. Nominations for the open positions will be collected electronically through June 15, 2021.

 

General Election

All eligible and completed nominations will move on to the AISES general election. Open Board vacancies will be filled by the candidates that receive the most votes during the general election. Voting is open to all General and Associate Members who are in good standing. Ballots are collected electronically through AISES’ membership platform. Requests for paper ballots can be made once voting is open.

 

Election Timeline

  • May 1, 2021: Nominations Open
  • June 15, 2021: Nomination Forms Due
  • July 1, 2021: Ballot will be generated from complete nominations and mailed or emailed to current General & Associate Members.
  • August 1, 2021: Ballot deadline. Ballots must be received in the AISES office in the AISES off by this date.
  • August 17, 2021: Elected nominees notified of their new position
  • September 21-22, 2021: Elected nominees are expected at AISES Board Meeting at AISES National Conference in Phoenix, AZ
  • December 10, 2021: Elected nominees are installed at the (Annual) Winter Board meeting.

Instructions

The AISES Board of Directors Nomination Form requires the following information:

  • Brief biography of the nominee that will be included in the ballot that is sent to each Associate and General Member. Include information about the nominee’s affiliation with AISES and the skills the nominee brings to the Board of Directors. (200 words or less)
  • Headshot photo of the nominee for inclusion in board election materials and on all announcements. Please do not include other individuals in the photo.
  • Two to four statements of endorsements. to collect endorsements from an AISES member in good standing who supports the nominee to the board. Completed documents will be uploaded to the nomination form.
  • Nominee will answer the following questions:
    • Why do you want to serve on the AISES Board of Directors? (150 words or less)
    • What is your past experience/association with AISES? (150 words or less)
    • Describe your fundraising and major gifts cultivation experience. (150 words or less)
    • Given the strategic goal of increasing value to all AISES members, what skills and resources can you provide toward the success of this strategic initiative? Present your experience with program development, target populations and outcomes. (150 words or less)
    • Share your previous experience in serving on a nonprofit board of directors. Specify your understanding of the associated fiduciary responsibilities required of a board member. (150 words or less)

 

All nominees are required to review and understand the All members of the Board of Directors are required to accept and sign this document annually. It is imperative that all nominees review the document carefully as it sets forth the legal, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities of AISES Board Members. Being a member of the AISES Board of Directors is a serious commitment and also requires a significant time commitment. Nominees must seriously consider the time commitment as well as the legal, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities that come with AISES Board Membership. In this regard, all nominees are also strongly advised to carefully review the document as well.
