The Annual AISES National Conference is a one-of-kind, three-day event focusing on educational, professional and workforce development! Attendees include American Indian high school and college students, educators, professionals, tribal nations and tribal enterprises, universities, corporations, and government agencies!

 

Student Social Event: Featuring Frank Waln

Frank Waln is an award winning Sicangu Lakota Hip Hop artist and music producer from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. A recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship, Waln attended Columbia College Chicago where he received a BA in Audio Arts and Acoustics. Waln’s awards include three Native American Music Awards, the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development 2014 Native American 40 Under 40, the 2014 Chicago Mayor’s Award for Civic Engagement, and the 2016 3Arts Grant for Chicago Artists. He has been featured in Buzzfeed, The Fader, Playboy, Vibe, NPR, ESPN, and MTV’s Rebel Music Native America. Waln has written for various publications including Decolonization: Indigeneity, Education, and Society and The Guardian. Frank Waln travels the world telling his story through performance and doing workshops focusing on self-empowerment and expression of truth.

The Kalpulli KetzalCoatlicue Dancers are a performance group of Mexican Aztec and Maya decent who teach traditional dances to their young people.  Based in Minneapolis, they perform all over the world. 

 

 

Midnight Express Drum Group
Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Thursday: 9:00 a.m. and Saturday 6:00 p.m.

This Midnight Express Drum Group has proven to be one of the most powerful drum groups on the powwow trail today. They have captivated powwow arenas from coast to coast with their unique original style of singing. Coming from the twin cities of Minnesota, they have taken numerous singing championships along with various host drum jobs at some of the most prestigious powwows in Indian Country

National Conference Announcements

Student Research Competition–Call for Abstracts
Calling all undergraduate and graduate students who are involved in STEM research! We invite you to PRESENT and COMPETE at the 2016 AISES National Conference. This call is for both ORAL AND POSTER research presentations. The online form will be open until all spaces are filled. However, spaces are filling up fast, so complete your submission today!

ASSIST Program - With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is able to bring up to 40 PhD students, post-doc professionals, and early-career faculty in Engineering to the 2016 AISES National Conference for professional development workshops, cultural activities, and networking. Deadline for applications is EXTENDED to October 14, 2016 by 5pm Mountain time.

College Chapter Video Competition - AISES would like to invite chapters to help other students prepare for the 2016 AISES National Conference by putting together a short video. Deadline: October 3, 2016

National Junior Student Representative - Student representatives serve in multifaceted leadership roles. Applications are now being accepted. Voting will take place at the National Conference. Deadline: October 12, 2016

College Chapter Awards - Awards will be presented in four categories, plus one winner will be named for overall excellence. Deadline-September 26, 2016

Advisor Awards - Recognize an outstanding AISES chapter advisor. Deadline-September 26, 2016
