Here are a few amazing professional sessions at this year’s Leadership Summit!

Title: Strengthening Professional Practice through the integration of common ethical education and Indigenous ethics

Date & Time: Monday, February 17 8:30-9:30 am, Cottonwood Room

Speakers: John Desjarlais, Great Plains Contracting

Description: Strengthening Professional Practice through the integration of common ethical education and Indigenous ethics intends to engage on developing, or adding to ones own knowledge base on ethical theory. The presentation discusses common ethics theory, and common codes of practices for professional agencies, and compares them to the case of Nehinaw (Cree) codes of ethics, outlining the common duty vs virtue traits of either. The presentation also explores Nehinaw (Cree) values as a case study in how the community can begin to engage their own culture, and language to develop ones own code of ethics inclusive of their own language and culture.

 

Title: Together We Can Do So Much: Facilitating Teamwork to Create STEM Leaders

Date & Time: Tuesday, February 18 8:30-10:15 am, White Sage Room

Speakers: Jennifer Roberts, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

Description: This workshop will provide a round-table discussion for professionals who may face program challenges or need new, innovative techniques to work with Native students and professionals. This interactive workshop will allow for evaluation, professional feedback and advice, as well as best practices with community partners that will contribute to overall student success. Participants will rotate between 6 different topic areas with a focus on leadership, partnerships, and student outcome expectations.

Signup for The Great Oak Tour!

The Pechanga Cultural Resources Department has graciously offered Leadership Summit attendees the opportunity to tour The Great Oak. The Great Oak is recognized as the largest naturally grown indigenous coast live oak in the Western United States. Its trunk is over 20 feet in circumference, and the above-ground portion of the tree is nearly 100 feet tall. There is no additional fee to signup, but space is limited.
