2022 AISES Board of Directors Election

 

The 2022 AISES Board of Directors election is underway! The strength of the Board of Directors comes from different areas of expertise, and this year's slate of candidates offer diverse experiences and expertise important for the leadership and growth of AISES. Each member of the AISES Board of Directors serves a 3-year term.

 

The AISES Board election poll is now open. Electing new Board members is an important part of being an AISES member – please vote today! AISES conducts voting electronically. If you need a paper ballot please contact . All AISES professional and college members in good standing are eligible to vote for a maximum of five nominees.

2022 Nominees

Elizabeth Brando

Cherokee Nation

 

Elizabeth Brando is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and the director of development for the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA). Elizabeth unites a passion for learning and education with concrete expertise in marketing, finance, strategic partnerships, project management, business development, and fundraising. She is a consummate relationship builder with a talent for bringing people together around shared purpose and goals. The opportunity to serve on the AISES board would support Elizabeth's desire to be of service to an important institution in Indian Country while contributing her strategic perspective and national network. She is a strong leader and an enthusiastic team player.

 

Jarrod Calhoun

Cherokee Nation

 

Jarrod Calhoun is a 8th generation Oklahoman, member of the Cherokee Nation, and an AISES Sequoyah Fellow. Jarrod is a 2004 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a 2020 graduate of the University of Texas - Austin with his MS degree in Engineering Management. Jarrod has over 20 years of engineering and leadership experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry.

 

Jarrod is a Senior Engineering Manager for The Boeing Company, leading Air Vehicle Structures for Bombers Sustainment, Modernization, and Weapons Integration programs. Jarrod is the Boeing/OU Executive Deputy for all University Engagement activities, supporting Curriculum Enrichment, Student Organizations, Outreach and Retention Programs, Student Projects, and Scholarships.

 

Jarrod currently serves as Chair of the University of Oklahoma Gallogly College of Engineering Dean's Advisory Board on Diversity (DABD) where he leads campaign and major gift cultivation in support of the College of Engineering's D&I Program for the direct benefit of diverse students through leadership and programming.

 

Jarrod has been affiliated with AISES since 1999, as an undergraduate student at the University of Oklahoma, the OU student Vice-President, AISES Region IV Student Representative, and now as an active professional - recruiting for The Boeing Company.

 

Jay Calhoun

Cherokee Nation

 

Jay Calhoun is Managing Partner of Apis Holdings, a Tulsa-based strategic advisory and private investment firm. He has served on the boards of Oseberg, Inc. (real asset software), Enhatch, Inc. (surgery software), FACT, Inc. (risk management software), Twelve Clans, Inc. (tribal sovereign wealth), Laguna Development Company (tribal sovereign wealth), New Mexico Community Capital (state-based venture capital), Henry Zarrow International School Foundation (bilingual education), i2E, Inc. (state-based venture capital), 36 Degrees North (entrepreneurship), Junior Achievement (entrepreneurial education), Tulsa Innovation Labs (economic development), Oklahoma Venture Resource Council (economic development), Oklahoma American Indian Chamber of Commerce (economic development) and the Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma (business education). Jay received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and his Master of Business Administration from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth with continuing professional certificates in investing and economic growth from Oxford and Harvard. Jay is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and resides in Tulsa with his wife, Tracy, and their children, Maddie and Heath.

 

Joshua John

Navajo

 

Joshua joined Raytheon after completing his bachelor's in physics from Northern Arizona University. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with masters in systems engineering in 2018. At Raytheon, Joshua works as a systems engineer within the Systems Engineering Integration and Test organization. He helps lead a team that performs system testing and flight tests for Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) program. In this role, he brings experience from leading a team in a highly stressed environment with implications to national security.

 

Joshua has been a member of AISES since high school and through undergraduate studies. He was a member and served on the NAU AISES chapter board. After graduation, he continued his commitment to AISES through the Raytheon American Indian Network (RAIN) and AISES professional chapters. He was honored in receiving the AISES Sequoyah membership from his mentor in 2014. In 2018, he was awarded the Most Promising Engineer award from AISES.

 

Joshua is a member of the Navajo Nation, originally from Shiprock, NM. Joshua is of the Folded Arms People clan, born for the Mountain/Apache People clan; his maternal grandfather is of the Mexican clan, and his paternal grandfather is of the Bear Enemies clan.

 

Brendan Kinkade

Choctaw Nation

 

Brendan is a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and a Sequoyah Fellow of AISES. On the local level Brendan has served as Chair of the Los Angeles Unified Schools District's Title VI Indian Education Program Parent Committee and is proud father to two wonderful children who are also members of AISES. On the national level he serves as a current member of the AISES Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of IBM's Executive Native American Diversity and Inclusion Council. At IBM, where he is part of the executive leadership team as Vice President, Build ISV, Technology and Hybrid Cloud Partnerships, Brendan advocates for Native American inclusion and leads initiatives around societal impact, Impact Grants, and helping to build STEM equity in the Native community. In addition to leading efforts for the Native American community within IBM, Brendan's global organization is a testament to the values of diversity and inclusion, with over 60% of his executives and 50% of his organization being women and/or minorities.

 

Melvin Monette-Barajas

Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa

 

A citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Melvin Monette-Barajas is the CEO and President for Indigenous Education, Inc. a nonprofit founded to administer the Cobell Scholarship Program. Melvin has dedicated a career to scholarship and financial aid information and provision for American Indian and Alaska Native college students since his original undergraduate Work-Study job with American Indian Student Services at the University of North Dakota (UND). With both a bachelor's and master's from UND, Melvin has worked for UND, the MN Department of Education Office of Indian Education, the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and the American Indian Graduate Center prior to his current role. He has served on various local, state, and regional advisory boards and is a past-President for the National Indian Education Association. Along with his husband, John, Melvin splits his time between Grand Forks, ND and Albuquerque, NM, which allows them much appreciated time with family in both areas.

 

Katelynn Morgan

Cherokee Nation

 

Katelynn is a member of the Cherokee Nation and currently serves as the President of the Texas Professional Chapter of AISES. She graduated in 2021 with her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas. After graduation, she accepted a job in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with a civil design firm working on public infrastructure. She has recently moved back to Northwest Arkansas where she is working for Ecological Design Group. Katelynn is interested in practicing sustainable engineering and making a lasting impact on the region she calls home. Katelynn is working with her colleagues to create low impact developments that are progressive, innovative, and environmentally focused. Katelynn is hoping that by joining the AISES Board of Directors, she will be able to bring a new perspective to the table, increase Region IV representation, and push for organizational progress.

 

William Tiger

Miccosukee

 

William is a Citizen of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida and an AISES Sequoyah Fellow. He obtained a BME from Kettering University in 1981, and MSE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1991. He worked in Michigan, Ontario, Maryland, and New York engineering and manufacturing powertrains, electric motors, and cooling components.

 

He was a founder of GM's Native American Cultural Network, and served on the Boards of the Baltimore County Chamber, Maryland Regional Manufacturing Institute, United Way of Central Maryland, United Way of Greater Niagara, and National Council of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. He was awarded the 2017 AISES Professional of the Year and 2019 United Way of Greater Niagara Humanitarian of the Year.

 

He currently serves on the AISES Board of Directors chairing the Governance Committee and the Capturing AISES History Project.

 

William lives in Naples Florida with wife Linda and has two daughters, Samantha and Danielle.
