November is National Scholarship Month

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society is proud to celebrate National Scholarship Month. AISES recognizes their Indigenous scholarship recipients' passion, determination, and commitment across North America and is so proud of all students pursuing their STEM career dreams through academia.

AISES helps students move forward in their educational journeys by providing a wide range of programs and scholarship opportunities. AISES scholarships help students acquire skills and training that will help them meet the unique STEM needs of our communities.

Scholarships applications can be daunting, time-consuming, and confusing. AISES wants to share its top five tips for the upcoming scholarship season.

1. Start early!

Scholarship applications can take a while from start to finish between school, work, family, and extracurricular activities. Make sure you start the process early. This includes requesting outside sources needed to complete your application, such as letters of recommendation or transcripts.

2. Stay Organized

There is a lot that goes into applying for scholarships and many deadlines for different applications. Deadlines are important! Make sure you have a detailed plan for all your applications.

3. Proofread your application

Most applications require or highly suggest a personal statement or essay. Have another person proofread your essays and applications; they are more likely to see the issues you might have missed.

4. Save your work

Many scholarship applications will ask the same or similar questions and need the same information. To speed up the process of applying for multiple scholarships, save your essays and personal statements! This will allow you to use the content you have already written and make minor adjustments to match your application's specific questions.

5. Do your research

There are so many resources available to students seeking financial aid and scholarships. Make sure you are looking at many different websites that have available scholarships. Qualifications matter when it comes to applying for scholarships, so make sure you read the desired qualifications for each scholarship you want to apply to; you don't want to waste time applying for a scholarship you are not qualified for.
