L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Class of 2020: AISES Member Danielle Boyer

Description of News Story Image

Indigenous educator, inventor, author, and entrepreneur Danielle Boyer has been recognized as a member of the L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Class of 2020. The Women of Worth competition honors women who make a significant difference in their community through volunteering. Boyer advanced through three judging phases to be named one of only 10 extraordinary Women of Worth. Each winner receives $10,000 to support her philanthropic work. A single National Honoree, who will be awarded an additional $25,000, will be chosen from among those 10 by a popular vote taking place online from October 19 to November 27. The public is limited to one vote per person, per day, per email address. The National Honoree will be announced on or about December 2, 2020.

An AISES member and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) ambassador, Boyer fully supports the AISES mission and has named AISES the beneficiary of her Women of Worth winnings. To vote for a National Honoree visit .

Boyer, 19, founded The STEAM Connection, a nonprofit organization led by youth, for youth. The STEAM Connection focuses on young people who are traditionally left behind when it comes to tech education — a cause that is especially close to Danielle’s heart as a queer, Ojibwe woman. Boyer is committed to increasing STEAM education access, affordability, and diversity by offering free speaking engagements, classes, books, and mentorship. The STEAM Connection offers learning opportunities that spark interest, promote technical competency, and build general understanding of and appreciation for STEAM learning and careers.

A signature STEAM Connection teaching tool is a robot-building kit that costs under $20. The EKGAR — Every Kid Gets a Robot — was conceived and created by Boyer, () and since 2019 nearly 4,000 free kits have been distributed worldwide.

An undergraduate student pursuing a double major in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, Boyer is an active AISES College Chapter member in Region 6. She has presented at 3DExperience World 2020, the AISES Leadership Summit, STEMedia, and STEMbassy.

When not traveling the U.S. promoting STEAM education, Boyer is blogging, podcasting, inventing, and teaching robotics — she loves teaching about design, resistors, circuits, and soldering. In celebration of her 20th birthday in 2020, she is preparing to unveil Twenty, an open robotics resource for free download.

So far 2020 has been a stellar year for Boyer. In September The Mars Generation recognized her as a 24 Under 24 Leaders and Innovators in STEAM and Space Award winner. The award celebrates young people from around the world who are breaking barriers in STEAM.

In honor of the International Day of the Girl, PEOPLE.com listed her as one of the Girls Changing the World in 2020, celebrating young innovators and trailblazers making a difference in their communities and beyond.
