AISES is Accepting Nominations for the 2016 Ely S. Parker Award to be Given at the National Conference
The Ely S. Parker Award is the highest honor bestowed by AISES, given in honor of a man who was the first recognized American Indian scientist/engineer.  The purpose of the award is to recognize those Indian leaders who most clearly embody AISES’ mission and goals through their achievements and contributions to science, technology, engineering, and math.  Members of the Board of Directors, officers, staff and corporate sponsors are not eligible.

Professional Opportunities

The Certified Federal Surveyors Program (CFedS) Scholarship -
Co-administered by the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and it provides unique and extensive training for PLS in understanding federal survey processes. CFedS is designed to: increase the pool of qualified surveyors to perform work on or near federal interest lands, including Indian lands; to ensure such surveys comply with federal regulations and policies, decreasing the chance and expense of rework; and provide opportunities to increase self-determination for Indian tribes.

Intel's America's Greatest Makers - tech competition television show where maker teams pitch their ideas / concepts in the smart-connected realm, showcase their prototype and compete for $1,000,000. Season one is currently airing, Tuesday's on TBS and is showcasing the wide variety of creativity and innovation that can be accomplished with the Intel Curie Module.

Serious Play Conference
Speakers will share their experience creating or using games in their corporation, classroom, healthcare institution, government and military, and offer tips on how to move game-based education programs ahead. Conference sessions will help educators upgrade their knowledge about using games to engage students in the learning process as well as how instruction in game design can bring at risk students back to class.

Tapia Conference - highlights and celebrates the technical achievements of diverse people in computer science.  With over 1,000 participants, it is the premiere venue to find mentors, find internships/jobs, learn about career paths in academia and industry, learn about the latest research, and build networks with other diverse people in the field of computing. Tapia is more than just a conference; it’s a community.

2016 Native American Fish & Wildlife Summer Youth Practicum - The 2016 Native American Fish & Wildlife summer youth practicum is a week-long program for Native American high school students. The Summer Youth Practicum is open to incoming 10-12th grade Native high school students who are interested in the preservation, protection, and enhancement of natural resources. The goal of the Summer Youth Practicum is to spark an interest in careers in the natural resources area including environmental science, fish and wildlife conservation and other related fields.

 




2016 Siemens Competition is Now Open

The Siemens Foundation established the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology in 1999. The Competition is the nation’s premier science research competition for high school students and seeks to promote excellence by encouraging students to undertake individual or team research projects. It fosters intensive research that improves students' understanding of the value of scientific study and informs their consideration of future careers in these disciplines. Scholarships for winning projects range from $1,000 to $100,000.

ESA LOFT Video Game Innovation Fellowship
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) Leaders on the Fast Track (LOFT) Video Game Innovation Fellowship challenges minority youths (ages 15-25) to develop video games and apps addressing social issues impacting their communities. Twenty Fellows, ages 15-25, will receive grants to continue development of their projects and fly to Washington, D.C. this October and present their ideas to the White House, Congress, and national community leaders.  The Fellows will be selected for their vision, creativity and positive impact in their community.

Champions for Change- The Center for Native American Youth (CNAY) is now accepting applications for the 2017 class of Champions for Change! Champions for Change are young Native Americans (ages 14 to 22) who demonstrate leadership and service within tribal and urban Indian communities, schools, and/or programs.

NASA Internships are educational hands-on traineeships that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students as well as educators. These internships integrate participants with career professionals emphasizing mentor-directed, degree-related, real-world task completion. During the internship participants engage in scientific or engineering research, development, and operations activities. In addition, there are non-technical internship opportunities to engage in professional activities which support NASA business and administrative processes.
