The South Dakota State University (SDSU) chapter of the American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) is asking for your support. On March 31st, SDSU AISES will host the regional conference for all AISES chapters in Region V. On April 1st we will be hosting the SDSU Wacipi (pow-wow). We are expecting this event to draw American Indian students from eight states and two Canadian provinces. The conference will be held in Brookings, SD on the SDSU campus where we anticipate over 50 participants.
This year's conference, we plan to incorporate STEM & Collaboration. We are a relatively new chapter and will need to collaborate with other organizations in order to have a successful conference. Each session will abide by the mission of AISES which is to "substantially increase the representation of American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, First Nations and other indigenous peoples of North America in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) studies and careers."
Since our theme is STEM & Collaboration, we are excited to be working with South Dakota State University and the professors for our different sessions. We will also be collaborating with other STEM organizations on campus. We will be hosting a banquet on Friday night that will include many students from across the region, the SDSU staff, and the other organizations that participated.
