The Deadline is Quickly Approaching for the AISES Energy Challenge

Enhance middle and high school Indigenous student learning with the Energy Challenge! 6th to 12th grade students can create energy solutions for their communities. Proposals are due on December 11, 2020. Visit the website for information about the criteria and what to include in the proposal.

AISES has posted tutorial videos to support the development of new projects. Videos are for students, teachers, mentors, and guardians to develop safe and meaningful Energy Challenge projects. The video can be found on the Energy Challenge page. Videos cover the following topics:

 

  • Use the Engineering Design Process for the Energy Challenge.
    Video 1 will cover the Energy Challenge, Energy Concepts, the Engineering Design Process, and the Engineering Notebook.
  • What is Research?
    Video 2 will go over the second step in the Engineering Design Process - Research. This video will also talk about the sources to use and ones to avoid.
  • Create Energy Solutions!
    Video 3 will share the process for developing solutions and building prototypes.
  • Q&A with Former Energy Challenge Winner
    Video 4 will feature a past Energy Challenge winner’s project and questions and answers.

Winning projects will be presented to and awarded by the Energy Challenge sponsor, the Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development (IEED) - Division of Energy and Mineral Development (DEMD) in Washington, D.C. in early summer 2021.
