AISES Announces Another $200,000 Implementation Grant from the Henry Luce Foundation

Post Date: February 9 2024

Albuquerque, NM, January 23, 2024 - AISES- Advancing Indigenous People in STEM - has recently been awarded another one-year, $200,000 implementation grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to continue the STEM leadership program for Indigenous womxn and establish another mentorship cohort for 2024. This grant builds on AISES’ first year of implementation in 2023,  funded by the foundation, that included the establishment of a mentorship program cohort of 117  Indigenous womxn professionals in STEM. AISES staff supported 48 womxn to travel to both the  Leadership Summit in Tulsa, Okla., and the National Conference in Spokane, Wash., as well as offering pre- conference workshops at both events. Additionally, an employer partner reception was held at the National Conference that included a panel of Indigenous womxn in STEM sharing their experiences and how to support their advancement. Several professional and cultural development webinars were held throughout the year as well. AISES is now planning to execute more virtual and in-person programming in 2024, including a new two-day gathering in the summer and more workshop activities at the AISES National Conference in San Antonio, Texas.

The second year of implementation will allow AISES to build up the program, invite another cohort of womxn to the program, hold a two-day Rematriation Program gathering, and continue the development and dissemination of employer trainings and resources. AISES has already started building its Indigenous 101 trainings suite, as well as an Employer Resource Guide aimed at supporting employers to holistically understand and support their staff who identify as Indigenous womxn.
