AISES is proud to address critical pipeline issues by developing Pre-College programming dedicated to encouraging Native American and Alaska Native students to pursue edcuations and careers in the science, engineering, technology and math disciplines.
National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair (NAISEF)

NAISEF offers great opportunity for 5-12 students through the cash prizes and scholarships students can win. In addition, the exposure and experience students gain stays with them as they progress through their college and professional careers.
AISES Virtual Science Community Support provided through the Innovation Generation Grant by the Motorola Foundation
The Innovation Generation grant supports technological growth for AISES Pre-College programs and events through webcasting live from NAISEF and the creation of an online Virtual Science Community (VSC). The Virtual Science Community showcases student research to a broader audience and creates additional student access to resources, mentors, and networking within the larger scientific community. The VSC enables students to use interactive tools to foster greater interaction, dialogue, and innovation in STEM research.
The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp (EMBHSSC) June 13 – June 25, 2010 Traditional Knowledge, Modern Challenges
AISES and UNM are proud to host this year’s ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp (EMBHSSC) for middle school students from New Mexico and surrounding areas.
This two-week academic, residential camp emphasizes increasing students’ mathematics and science skills, introduces them to college life, and stimulates their interest on science and engineering as a potential career path. Each day, campers will attend classes that include problem solving, research, writing and communication skills, incorporated with biology, chemistry, physics, environmental, earth science, engineering and design concepts, and field excursions. Campers will also get to meet astronauts Dr. Bernard Harris and John Herrington (Chickasaw).
Teacher Development
Currently, the Pre-College Department offers a Professional Teacher Development Day at the Annual National Conference. In keeping with the spirit of support for Indian Education, this day is fee free and open to all teachers of American Indian students.
Pre-College Affiliated Schools Program The Pre-College Affiliated Schools Program is open to all K-12 schools that have American Indian students. Membership offers the opportunity to participate in the annual National American Indian Science and Engineering Fair. Membership also offers opportunities to participate in workshops and other special AISES events.
