USDA National Needs Graduate Fellowships
As a consortium of public wheat breeders from seven universities across the country, we are offering Fellowships for students to complete M.S. degrees in plant breeding with emphases on variety development and application of genomics and bioinformatics. The seven students will join a national team of public wheat breeders dedicated to the genetic improvement of wheat. In addition to training at their home universities, students will participate as a team for advanced training in crop genomics and bioinformatics.

2008 UCLA Nanosystems Chemistry and Engineering Research
We are accepting applications for the 2008 UCLA Nanosystems Chemistry and Engineering Research (NanoCER) NSF REU program.  The program will run from June 22 through August 29, 2008 (10 weeks), and will engage physical science and engineering students in interdisciplinary team-based research, professional skills workshops and seminars. Participants will have access to sophisticated instrumentation and fabrication facilities.  Benefits include a weekly stipend, on-campus housing and a travel grant to present results at a professional conference.

Applicants must have GPA of 3.0 or greater, have completed their junior year, and clearly articulate an interest in nanotechnology in their personal statement.  No previous research experience is required, and students from colleges where research opportunities are limited are especially encouraged to apply.  NanoCER strives to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who continue on to doctoral study in science and engineering.  Students must apply separately to BOTH the REU-NanoCER and SPUR programs.  See the instructions on our web page for more information, http://www.cnsi.ucla.edu/reu-nanocer/app-requirements.

IGERT PhD Fellowships
Exciting IGERT PhD Fellowships Available to Study Sustainable Urban Infrastructure in Real Cities!!
The University of Colorado Denver seeks PhD students in Engineering, Architecture & Planning, Public Affairs, and, Health & Behavioral Sciences to work on dissertations pertaining to the development of sustainable infrastructures in cities worldwide. Nationally-recruited IGERT PhD trainees will be supported through a grant received from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
PROGRAM SUMMARY: Our program seeks to integrate innovative technologies in various infrastructure sectors (water, energy, transport, waste, buildings, etc) with urban planning, public policy and community-based participatory research to achieve urban health and sustainability goals. Students from all the participating disciplines will have the exciting opportunity to work on real-world sustainability projects in cities along the Denver / Front Range area in Colorado, USA, and/or in our sister city, Chennai, India. We are presently partnering with three cities to assist in water, energy, climate action and health projects.

Research Experience and Graduate School Preparation in Aquatic and Watershed Ecology

Buffalo State College will initiate a new, NSF-funded undergraduate research and training program in Fall 2008 for minority students. This is a 2-yr program of study for students interested in graduate careers in aquatic and watershed ecology. Students accepted into the program will conduct research with faculty members in our Watershed Institute on topics such as nutrient biogeochemistry, impacts of combined sewer overflows, population genetics, fisheries, aquatic invasive species, and food web dynamics. Students will also attend classes, workshops, and professional meeting as a cohort. Undergraduates with between 40 and 60 completed credits in Biology, Geology/Earth Sciences, Geography, or related discipline are encouraged to apply. Only U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible. The annual stipend is $12,000, plus summer dorm housing and travel to professional meetings are provided. Position:  Engineering-Product Development Internship

2008-2009 IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Program

IBM is pleased to announce the IBM University Relations Ph.D. Fellowship Program for the 2008-2009 academic year.  IBM University Relations Ph.D. Fellowship nominations may be made by faculty members from September 17 to October 26, 2007.

The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship program honors exceptional Ph.D. students in many academic disciplines and areas of study, for example: computer science and engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering , physical sciences (including  chemistry, material science, and physics), mathematical sciences (including optimization),  business sciences (including financial services, communication, and learning/knowledge ), and service sciences, management, and engineering.  Additionally, IBM has special attention to an array of focus areas of interest to IBM and fundamental to innovation.

IBM University Relations Ph.D. Fellowships are awarded worldwide.  IBM Ph.D. Fellows are awarded tuition, fees, and a stipend for the nine month academic year 2008-2009. All IBM Ph.D. Fellows are matched with an IBM Mentor according to their technical interests, and they are encouraged to participate in a summer internship. Interns are awarded an IBM ThinkPad gift during the internship. Hydrology Graduate Fellowship Training Program
The NOAA/National Weather Service Office of Hydrologic Development (OHD) has established the Hydrology Graduate Fellowship Training Program in support of the OHD research activities. The program will be administered by the NOAA-CREST Center at the City College of New York.

The program will award two fellowships annually.  One fellowship is restricted to students pursuing graduate degrees at one of the NOAA/CREST campuses. The other fellowship is open to any student pursuing graduate degrees at any university in the US and its territories.  The fellowships will be one- to four- year appointments, renewable annually, depending on student performance and funding availability. Both US and non-US citizens may apply for the fellowships. Each fellowship amounts to $50,000. The fellowships are designed to provide support and guidance to select scientific graduate students with the goal of training a new generation of scientists to meet the workforce needs of NOAA and the nation.
