Professional Chapters

AISES currently has twelve professional chapters across the United States. AISES encourages the development of additional professional chapters to provide greater and more comprehensive support to our growing student constituency.

Professional AISES chapters provide support on a regional and local level in a variety of ways, including:

  • Provide role models for students and professionals by identifying community contributions of American Indian scientists and engineers.
  • Provide support/mentorship for students in the transition from student status to professional status.
  • Provide support/mentorship for other professionals by organizing seminars and workshops to develop management, communication, and other skills.
  • Provide networking resources by:
  • Establishing community relations.
  • Sharing job opportunities.
  • Organizing student scholarships.
  • Encouraging Sequoyah Fellowships.
  • Maintaining a Speakers Bureau for conferences for high school and college functions.
  • Providing science fair judges.
  • Supporting educational partnerships.
  • Encouraging participation in other technical societies.
  • Educate the public to American Indian capabilities in science and other technical areas.
  • Promote communication among AISES members.
  • Nominate and support individuals for AISES Board of Directors.
  • Supporting AISES in other ways recommended or allowed by the National Headquarters.

Starting a Professional Chapter

Thank you for your interest in forming an AISES Professional Chapter.  AISES Professional Chapters were established to create a full circle of support system. Students begin their journey with AISES through K-12 participation, they continue with higher education, and finally enter the workforce. Professional chapters are there continuously supporting the transition from one level to the next, illustrating a ‘giving back to AISES’ relationship. Therefore, it is essential that those wishing to form a chapter go through the described process that will help in putting together a strong, effective and efficient organization that will better meet the needs of its members.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Membership
Each AISES Professional Chapter must have a minimum of five General members in good standing with AISES National. All chapter members must be individual members of AISES National. Professional membership dues are renewable each year. Therefore, to become a Professional Chapter, the chapter members listed on the petition (hereinafter referred to as the organizers or organizing committee) must be AISES National members. AISES Membership Applications may be filled out online. Visit the Membership section of the website for more information. Verification of membership may be sent along with the petition. If there is uncertainty about the membership status, call AISES at (505) 765-1052 x109 or e-mail membership@aises.org with any questions. If there are fewer than five AISES members among the organizers, no action can be taken and the Application/Petition for the Establishment of a Professional Chapter will be returned.
