Wendy Smythe
AISES Graduate Student
I am a graduate student at OHSU-OGI majoring in Environmental Science. I study manganese oxides from various environmentally unique locations such as hydrothermal springs and cold seeps. I was recently awarded an NSF Graduate Student Fellowship. I am particularly interested in providing geoscience opportunities for Alaska Native middle and high school students and currently work on an NSF funded grant teaching geoscience curricula from a tribally relevant perspective, geoscience modules will be translated into the Haida language in an effort to preserve and teach the language. My dream would be the establishment of a tribal college in Southeast Alaska. |
